About us

Small in size. Committed for more than 30 years.

AMICA, Friendship and Cooperation with Cambodia, is a French association founded in 1992.

For more than three decades, volunteers and partners have put their skills to work for practical projects in Cambodia.

AMICA has deliberately stayed a human-sized association.

  • Little structure.
  • Quick decisions.
  • Relationships built over time.
  • And most of our energy devoted to the projects.

How we work

We are not experts in everything.

And we do not claim to have all the answers.

The way we work starts with a local reality, a practical need and people ready to take a project forward.

Then we bring what we can: funding, skills, a network, time and energy.

  1. 1We experiment.
  2. 2We measure.
  3. 3We adapt.

And when something does not work, we would rather admit it and change.

Our aim is not to multiply projects.

It is to build useful projects that can last.

An association run mostly by volunteers

AMICA runs first and foremost on the commitment of volunteers.

There are no thinkers on one side and doers on the other.

Anyone who joins AMICA can suggest an idea, take charge of a topic, set up a partnership or contribute directly to a project.

Communications, finance, tourism, fundraising, digital, photography, video, languages, project management…

We look less for profiles than for people who want to get things done.

And because the team is small, everyone can make a real difference.

Here and there

AMICA works thanks to a constant link between France and Cambodia.

In France

In France, volunteers raise funds, develop partnerships, contribute their skills and support the projects.

In Cambodia

In Cambodia, we work with local teams, village leaders, teachers, craftspeople, families and the people who keep the projects going day to day.

Volunteers can also spend several months in the field to support a particular stage of a project.

Two countries. One team around the projects.

The village also decides what comes next.

In Cheung Kok, the cooperation fund keeps part of the value created in the village.

It can help pay for teachers, shared equipment, microloans or other needs decided locally.

It is an essential part of our model.

AMICA can provide funding or support a project.

But its value is also measured by what local people can then decide and fund themselves.

Little structure. Lots of fieldwork.

AMICA has chosen to keep a light way of working.

  • No big headquarters.
  • No complex international organisation.
  • A team made up mostly of volunteers and limited overheads.

This model lets us focus our resources on the projects and stay close to the people who keep them going.

Every euro has to have a purpose.

Association governance

AMICA is an association.

Its governance rests on its members, its General Assembly and the people elected to run the association.

  1. The members
  2. The General Assembly
  3. The Board

    • Michaël EnglandVice-President
    • Thierry Sainte ClaireTreasurer
    • Sylvie GarnierGeneral Secretary
    • Gilles LaurentBoard member
    • Bernard MichelBoard member
    • Monorom YoukBoard member
    • Soukha BriendBoard member
    • Roselyne ChevalierBoard member

The Board sets the direction, follows the projects and makes sure resources are used properly.

But we want an association where governance is more than a few meetings a year.

AMICA also belongs to those who choose to get involved.

Our partners

None of our projects is built alone.

Over the years, AMICA has worked with villages, institutions, associations, companies, travel agencies, volunteers and funding partners.

  • Some provide funding.
  • Others bring skills.
  • Others open doors for us.
International Organisation of La Francophonie

Today, the International Organisation of La Francophonie is notably supporting the next stage of the Cheung Kok community tourism project.

A good partner is not just one who funds a project.

It is one who helps us make it better.

You can be part of the story.

AMICA has existed since 1992.

But it is not an association that looks to its past.

New people regularly arrive with a skill, an idea, a contact or simply the wish to take part.

  • Some give a few hours.
  • Others take charge of a project.
  • Some go to Cambodia.
  • Others will never go and will be just as useful.

There is no single way to get involved.

Join AMICA

  • Do you have a few hours to give?
  • A skill to share?
  • A wish to take part in a practical project?
  • Or simply want to meet the team before deciding?

Come and talk to us.

No need to have worked in the aid sector.

Motivation is already a very good start.
